So, I was walking to class today, with my iPod on random, (which is rare for me, actually) and Disappear found it’s way into the rotation.

Now I know you’re all thinking “Man, he has his own band on his iPod? What a goon!” and it’s true, I not only have all of Aqueous on my iPod, but I have every single revision of every track on it, since I listened to them all 100 times in order to maximize how much of a pain in the ass I could be while Alex was mixing the thing. (Not really true, though I was probably a pain, but I’ll be damned if he didn’t do a good job!) And truth be told, sometimes I do listen to it. Part of the reason I’m so proud of it is that once I can stop listening to it like it’s my own (stop trying to think of how we could change guitar tones, change melodies and things to make it better) and just listen to it as music I actually like listening to it. Now maybe it’s just because Sam is so good, but it’s possible that it’s actually just good music. So I was wondering, does anyone else still listen to it too? So if you do? I want to know. In fact, I feel like I owe you one, for enjoying our music. It means a lot.

SO, if anyone still listens to it like it were any other CD they own, I want to know. :)

I want to know your play-count of Aqueous. On iTunes, in your car, just something approximate, and if yours is the highest, I’ll buy you lunch! (if a lot of people have listened to it a lot, I’ll buy you ALL a Slurpee, or foot the bill for a free show somewhere once we’re practiced and ready to go again)

You guys are all the best.

Also, to all the people who are probably like “JOEL WHAT THE HELL YOU SAID A WHILE AGO YOU WOULD GET US THE AQUEOUS BOOKS!” I’m almost done, I swear. Want to know why they’re taking so long? Because writing them while being a student takes a LOT of time, and they each take 1 to 3 hours, ish. That’s if I’m on a roll.

Why do you ask? Here’s Ali Mullin’s

YOU’RE WRITING THEM UPSIDE DOWN? No. No I’m not, I was just holding them like that to take the picture as proof, but her’s is 10 or 11 pages, which at this point, is only a little above average. And that was writing pretty small. So to get them all done, I’m literally writing out upwards of 100 pages, which takes time. But I PROMISE I haven’t forgotten and will get them to you. Your support means so much, and I’ll never take it for granted. They’re coming. I promise. 7 – 12 pages of lyrics and insights into our band and our little EP and what’s next and maybe other things about the world. Who knows. :)

Thanks for being the best, guys. :)

P.S. Central Manitoba Youth Choir is on tour this weekend, so you should go see them. They are fantastic. Their tour schedule is on facebook here. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=194135480660236&ref=ts

It’s been 3 years since I’ve been a part of it but I check them out every year, cause they’re so great. So show up if you can!

Also one last thing, go to http://www.facebook.com/mammaryducks and tell them that you’d like us to play at their breast cancer fundraiser Rock for the Cure, and then if they ask us to play, make sure you show up to support the cause! It’s always a fantastic show, and it’s a great great cause.

Thanks for being the best ever!

Joel

Hey guys!

We’re still a band. I just wanted you to know that. We’ve been working on an idea for the fall, once we’re not all doing farmwork, we’ll be able to start playing again, and we’ve got a new way to play for you, that will hopefully be all worked out and ready to go in September or October.

I’ve been writing a lot, too. Lots of new lyrics, riffs, ideas.

Here’s a thought about one, though.

A lot of times, people are under the impression that someone has hurt them, but more often than people hurt eachother, they actually just give eachother reasons or methods to upset themselves. They’re an innocent gun, so to speak, they can be the weapon, but without fault. Can cause the damage, but not by any fault of theirs. It’s an interesting thought, anyway. I’m working on a song about it right now. Cool? I hope so.

Keep on Keepin’ on! Hope you’re having a great summer!

Joel

Hey guys,

Remember our awesome awesome friends in Pocket Change? Right now, they’re in a contest to be named the best high school band in the province. If you saw them live? You know they deserve it, I mean who else could have a sound so refined and so tight? They’re great musicians, and we’d love to see them win this, so you should lend your support. It’s pretty easy, and you can listen to their new tune “Classics” while you do it! Here’s what they posted on their facebook page earlier today or late last night or something… :P

Hey Everyone!

We REALLY need your help!!!

CBC is running a contest looking for MB’s best high school band. Since 4/5 of us are still in school. We qualify!

New Song – www.radio3.cbc.ca/play/band/Pocket-Change/Classics

Ways to help

- Post your vote – http://www.facebook.com/CBCRockUTS
- Send a vote to cbcrockuts@cbc.ca
- Become a fan of us – www.radio3.cbc.ca/#/bands/Pocket-Change

THANKS :)

I don’t know about you guys, but the first week play count of their EP? Was only rivaled by the first week playcount of the new Foo Fighter’s cd Wasting Light. (Which is perhaps their best album, and perhaps one of the best albums I’ve ever heard, you HAVE to check it out. You can listen free for the time being at wastinglight.foofighters.com ) We listen to the Pocket Change ep all the time around our place. So we hope you’ll do the same, and give them some support, just take five minutes to sign up and vote for them, even less to vote for them on that facebook page. But in 5 minutes? You could do all three of those things, and give Pocket Change the win they deserve. So help out?

Thanks!

Hey Guys

I’ve just finished making some changes to the Free Kittens website that should make it easier for you to stalk see what Free Kittens have been up to!

First of all, whenever there’s a new blog post on the website, it’ll magically appear on Facebook as well so that you can read it right away! You can also comment on blog posts and photos now.

Secondly, Free Kittens status updates will now appear on Twitter as well. You can find and follow them by using the link on the right side of the website.

Finally, while I’m here, I want to let you all know about a Free Kittens show next week! From 8:30 until 10:30, they will be playing at the Ponderosa Days festival, and there are fireworks right after! I’m sure there will be more details about it soon, so stay tuned!

Jeremy

Ever wonder what happens backstage at a Free Kittens show? Me neither. But for the few of you who may have been curious at one point or another, I have a gift for you. I shot this video at one of our recent shows. We were just hanging out backstage while another band was out playing. There were two other guys who played an acoustic set earlier in there with us, and something wonderful happened. An impromptu jam session broke out. Watch the video below to see it for yourself!

Well if you ever wondered where we came from, here it is.  I think this is pretty self explanatory.  This is Free Kittens from my point of view.  It basically outlines what’s happened with the band from formation to today.

Well, it has been a while since I’ve written anything on here so here it goes!

Last Friday, Joel and I decided to indulge in a round of golf.  I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt, it was exactly what I needed.  I had a blast.  Looking at the scorecard, however, told a different story.   A golf score for nine holes should not be that high!  Joel won 51-64.

Obviously there is only one logical conclusion to be drawn from what I’m saying here… We need practice.  Expect to see Joel and I out on the links again this summer…. Maybe I’ll even wear a sweater vest.

Edit: Joel just edited this post to point out that the title of the last post is getting back into the swing. Accidental pun?

So!

Its a long weekend! Sleep in! Have fun with your families and stuff! Go outside and play in the weather that has just actually… turned for the worse… eat a lot of awesome food but not so much that you’re sick, find a lot of candy hidden around your house, and get excited for upcoming Free Kittens material!

That’s right. Tonnes of new material. My girlfriend was in Hawaii this week, and in all the time I therefore didn’t spend texting, I wrote more songs than I know what to do with.

What does this mean for you? This means, that within the next month, if we can find the time amongst our exams, you could have your very own copy of a FULL LENGTH FREE KITTENS ALBUM!

What should we call it? I don’t know, why don’t you tell us? Send us a message and let us know what you think, what you want to hear. Give us a shout quick, cause this will all be on tape before you know it. :)

Have a great Easter!

Joel

I’ve been thinking over the last day or so that I’d better get to work and write something new up here.  In one of my classes we’re looking at how blogging and how to be successful at it.  I hope to use some of those tips and tricks here to keep things interesting.

So now I’m at a bit of a stand still.  How does one write about something when they have nothing to write about?  Well, I’ve just taken a snapshot of my life at this very moment.  I’m in the TV Room at my residence.  I’m here mostly because my internet all of a sudden quit working on me.  Funny enough, it happened while I was writing an email to the residence office.  Talk about irony.  So now I have something else to talk to them about.

Once I got down here the awesome people that inhabit this room inform me that the fine folks at Brandon University implemented a username and password system for the campus wifi.  As it turns out, technically I’m not a university student.  I just live here.  So of course, I don’t have a username and/or password.  One of the great people down here in the TV Room offered to log me in.  So as an outlet, I suppose I wrote this.

Not bad for nothing to write about.

So we’ve launched the site!

Again, thanks to Jeremy for helping us set this up.

I have nothing better to do during Psychology class, so I’m posting an update-ish. (There’s nothing actually happening in class, this won’t hurt my marks, don’t worry your pretty little heads) I’ll probably expand on the Bio today. Say a little something about each of us, maybe make some drummer jokes, or make lots of sweater vest references. Who knows, maybe those will be entertaining. Check back soon and maybe there will be some cool new stuff to look at. We’re also working on getting hold of the video footage from our Corn and Apple gig, so we can get that up there for you guys to see too. (Oooh! Fun!)

Also, its looking like we’re practicing a few times in the coming weeks, and then perhaps getting together on the 27th with a lot of microphones, so we can get some of our originals on tape. Is this a Free Kittens EP? We think so. :) Will you be able to buy a copy with a cover poorly sketched by crayons I never quite wore out in kindergarden? Quite likely. :)

Why? Cause Crayons are awesome, that’s why.

Have a nice day!

Joel
